Norlin Uninvited To City Staff Meetings

From the moment Sandra Norlin was hired to become the Des Plaines Public Library's top administrator in 1995, she has attended regular weekly city staff meetings at the invitation of the city manager.

Gathered around a table in a city hall conference room with as many as a dozen other top city administrators, Norlin would learn about city issues, some of which affected the library, and be informed about upcoming city council meeting agendas.

Her involvement in those meetings came to an abrupt end four months ago when she was uninvited by City Manager Jason Bajor.

"I received an email on June 23 informing me to no longer attend," said Norlin. "It was based on an earlier conversation I had with Jason Bajor. He said it was best for the city's management team that I no longer attend."

City staff meetings are held every Tuesday afternoon.

"Attending the meetings was helpful to me," added Norlin. "I would learn what's on city council agendas. It was helpful for the library." Bajor in recent weeks has failed to return repeated calls made to him by the Journal & Topics Newspapers.
