Fire Breaks Out At Campground

After laying down 1000-ft, of hose Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Campground, Des Plaines firefighters extinguished a blaze in a white, wooden cottage at 18 Circle St.

According to reports, firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at the historic campgrounds, located north of Algonquin Road along the Des Plaines River 2:24 p.m. Upon arrival, the firemen observed smoke coming from the attic of the wooden structure.

"Since there are no reliable water mains in the campground, 1000-ft. of 5-inch hose had to be laid to supply the attack fire engine using a hydrant on Joseph Schwab (Campground) Road," said reports. Once firefighters were able to enter the cottage, the blaze was put out. It was determined that the fire was electrical in nature.

Damage was estimated at $15,000.

No injuries were reported.
