19-Year-Old Charged Hours After Release

Des Plaines police took four people into custody and warned the mother of one of them in the early morning hours of June 2.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Harding Avenue at 1:20 a.m. for a report of glass breaking and three people running from the scene.

Police located an 18-year-old Palatine man, a 17-year-old Des Plaines man, and a 16-year-old Des Plaines boy.

They explained they were at the 16-year-old's apartment when they heard glass breaking from the rear door.

Police learned Cody D. Bryan, 19, of 440 N. Third Ave. #2, Des Plaines, had allegedly called the 16-year-old earlier in the evening, telling him he had just been released from jail and was planning to come over to spend the night.

The youth and his friends did not want Bryan to come over and told him on the telephone that they would not be home but his belongings would be on the porch.

When Bryan came over, the three were silent in the apartment, at which time Bryan allegedly broke a window to gain entry and the other three fled.

Police spoke to Bryan on the phone; he allegedly directed officers to several locations in the city, promising to turn himself in, but he was never at any of the places.

Officers finally searched the apartment of the 16-year-old and discovered Bryan hiding in a closet. He was taken into custody after a short struggle.

A further search of the apartment allegedly recovered several plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, a digital scale, a grinder, and empty bottles of beer.

After several attempts, officers were able to contact the 16-year-old's mother who was staying the night at a friend's home in Batavia.

She came to the police station and was served a notice of parental irresponsibility indicating she would be charged if her son was involved in any other similar violations in the next two years.

Bryan was charged with criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to property, obstructing police, and resisting police.

The 18-year-old and the 17-year-old were both charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor; the 17-year-old was also charged with possession of cannabis.
