Developer Will Hold Casino Job Fair
The company picked to build and operate the new Des Plaines casino will conduct at least one job fair where people interested in employment can learn about opportunities and possibly submit applications.
In addition, Midwest Gaming and Entertainment, LLC will host a fair for local vendors interested in providing products and services to the new gaming operation.
That's what members of the Des Plaines Economic Development Commission (EDC) were told at a Wednesday morning meeting in city hall.
Scott Strusiner of Midwest told EDC members that following a February open house at Christ Church where the casino was discussed, his company received numerous inquiries from perspective employees. Recently, EDC chairman Jim Ulett stressed his hope that Midwest will aggressively work Des Plaines companies to provide services and products.
City Manager Jason Bajor, who attended Wednesday's EDC meeting, said Strusiner explained that the new casino will provide many immediate economic-related benefits to the community. A Midwest memorandum said the casino will provide new jobs for the community, provide greater customer base opportunities for local businesses, and bring to the city additional revenue in the form of sales and property taxes. Current projections show an additional $9 million in gaming tax revenues will go the city. The Illinois Gaming Board is continuing its suitability investigation into the casino plan. The casino could open within the next two years.
