World Won't Be Same Without Late Pat Botterman
Editor, Journal:
Our dear friend and inspiration, Pat Botterman, passed away on Monday, Mar. 10. He will be greatly missed.
As many of you know, Pat was my campaign manager. I am a state senator because of his hard work, character and uncanny political insight. I, and the hundreds of people whose lives he touched, are better human beings for having known him. Rest in peace Pat. The world will be a lot less interesting and funny of a place without you in it.
State Senator, Dan Kotowski
Officials Should Reside In City
Editor, Journal:
Your "Off the record" column of Feb. 20 about residency requirements was excellent. I believe it should be necessary for employees of Des Plaines to live in Des Plaines. With so many for sale signs everywhere, there's a home for all. The municipal tax on my latest Nicor Bill is $6.40, enough for two gallons of gasoline. All employees should live here and pay the taxes old and new that we on fixed income have to pay. I would also encourage our city council to consider a law recently passed by Niles, restricting all trucks, limos, etc., from parking on residential streets.
I've had a truck parked in front of my house 24-7 for over four years. I've been told police cannot do anything and a no parking sign is not possible because our street is only one-block long. You can guess where all the snow goes when plows come through.
Carol Ehnert, Des Plaines
