DRUG
CHARGES
Daniel Grabowski, 25, of 150 E. Northwest Highway B, Des Plaines, was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 8:14 p.m. Nov. 12. An officer saw him sitting in his car behind the Frisbie Senior Center, 52 E. Northwest Highway, and stopped him for investigation. During a search, police allegedly recovered a plastic bag containing suspected heroin from his pocket.
Ryan R. Taylor, 20, of 1979 Fargo Ave., Des Plaines, was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 6:20 p.m. Nov. 11. Police stopped him in the 2300 block of Scott Street for allegedly driving at 47 mph in a 40 mph zone on Touhy Avenue after being involved in a suspicious transaction at Touhy and River Road. During a search of his vehicle, police allegedly recovered a bottle of Alprazolam that was not prescribed to him.
Melanie S. Giancaspro, 32, of 8800 Root St. #5, Niles, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop at 7:58 p.m. Nov. 12. She was the passenger in a vehicle stopped in the 3000 block of South River Road for an alleged broken taillight lens. During a search, officers allegedly recovered four suspected crack pipes from her possession.
Shahzad H. Rattani, 26, of 1680 Norwood Ave. #212, Itasca, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a revoked driver's license, and no rear registration plate light. Police stopped him at 5:23 p.m. Nov. 13 in the 2100 block of Mannheim Road for the alleged lighting violation. During a search, police allegedly recovered a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana and a glass pipe from his vehicle.
DUI
CHARGES
Mariusz S. Sosnowski, 35, of 8319 O'Connor Drive #2E, River Grove, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol content more than .08 percent, no valid driver's license, improper turn, and two counts of improper lane usage. Police stopped him at 2:07 a.m. Nov. 16 in the 1700 block of Elmhurst Road. Sosnowski allegedly struck the curb then drifted into the center lane while driving at 25 mph. He turned onto Touhy Avenue, allegedly drifted across the lane lines, and police stopped him near Mt. Prospect Road. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later recorded more than the legal limit on a breath test. He has allegedly lived in Illinois for ten months without getting a driver's license.
RETAIL THEFT
CHARGED
Moreno Contreras, 21, of 7500 Elmhurst Rd. #26D, Des Plaines, was charged with petite theft at K mart, 1155 E. Oakton St. He was stopped at 1:55 p.m. Nov. 15 after he allegedly tried to leave without paying for a wallet and lighted bicycle stem plugs valued at a total of $20.66.
RETAIL THEFT
REPORTED
A man entered Speedway Gas, 885 E. Touhy Ave., at 2:44 a.m. Nov. 13 and took 23 packages of cigars valued at a total of $136.11. He fled in a silver 1999 Chrysler Concorde with a woman. Officers recovered video surveillance footage of the incident.
A man fled Joey's Liquors, 1505 E. Oakton St., without paying for a bottle of vodka valued at $31.99 and fled in a red car. The theft occurred at 4:43 p.m. Nov. 15.
DRIVING
CHARGES
Porfirio J. Torres-Sanchez, 31, of 8851 N. Cumberland Ave. #2, Niles, was charged with no valid driver's license and expired registration at 6:52 a.m. Nov. 13. An officer stopped him for the alleged registration violation in the 1400 block of South Lee Street.
Chaudell E. Gray, 29, of 719 W. 50th Place, Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license, no proof of insurance, expired registration, and improper signal. Police stopped him at 2:11 a.m. Nov. 15 in the 1800 block of South Elmhurst Road.
Hubel Cortes-Torres, 31, of 643 Burgundy Court Unit B, Elk Grove Village, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license, no proof of insurance, suspended registration, and no seatbelt. An officer stopped him in the 1300 block of East Oakton Street at 1:09 p.m. Nov. 14.
Fernando Diaz Jr., 25, of 2626 N. Meade St., Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license and obstructed windshield. An officer pulled him over at 7:53 a.m. Nov. 14 in the 100 block of East Oakton Street for allegedly having objects hanging from his rearview mirror.
BURGLARIES
AND THEFTS
Someone ransacked a white 1999 Ford Expedition in the 400 block of Beau Drive between 10:30 p.m. Nov. 10 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 11. Nothing appeared taken from the vehicle.
A global positioning system was taken from an unlocked gold 1999 Mazda in the 2500 block of Dempster Street between 9:30 and 10:05 p.m. Nov. 16.
Someone broke a window and took a global positioning system from a green 1995 Nissan Altima in the 1100 block of Holiday Lane between 8:30 p.m. Nov. 14 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 15.
A cash box containing $3,000 was taken from a restaurant in the 800 block of South Elmhurst Road at about 11 a.m. Nov. 15. An off-duty employee and her boyfriend came into the business and went to the rear office at about that time; the theft was discovered a short time later.
Jewelry valued at $7,500 was taken from a home in the first block of Marina Drive between 11 a.m. Nov. 8 and 12:30 p.m. Nov. 15.
Jewelry and $230 cash were taken from a home in the 500 block of Dawn Court between 6:15 and 9:45 p.m. Nov. 14.
A digital camera and jewelry were taken from a home in the 700 block of Mark Avenue between 6:40 and 9:45 p.m. Nov. 14.
WARRANT
APPREHENSIONS
Julienne R. Ramos, 23, of 3212 N. Gages Lake Rd., Gurnee, was served an outstanding warrant from Lake County for financial exploitation of elderly. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Sherman Place at 8:25 a.m. Nov. 16.
Keith W. Hagenback, 61, of 500 W. Touhy Ave. #35 B, Des Plaines, was served an outstanding warrant from Cook County for forgery. Police took him into custody during the investigation of an alleged battery in the 1400 block of East Rand Road at 3 p.m. Nov. 16.
VANDALISM
REPORTS
The air was let out of two tires on a white 2006 Chevrolet Express in the 2900 block of Curtis Street between 6 p.m. Nov. 11 and 11:20 a.m. Nov. 12.
Someone spray-painted graffiti on a stop sign at Highland and Ash streets before 9:30 a.m. Nov. 12.
An unknown object broke the window of a white 1998 Ford F150 as the driver turned from Cordial Drive onto Marshall Drive at 7:45 a.m. Nov. 13. A suspect ran from the front yard of a home, jumped a fence, and escaped.
Someone threw a pumpkin at the windshield of a white 1996 Mercury Marquis in the 1600 block of East Morse Avenue, breaking it. The damage occurred between 1 and 5:40 a.m. Nov. 13.
Someone spray-painted a white 1998 Ford Explorer in the 1000 block of East Oakton Street between 6:30 and 8:55 p.m. Nov. 15.
