BATTERY
CHARGED
Curtis M. Winnick, 20, of 944 Wilshire Ave., Elk Grove Village, was charged with battery, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Police took him into custody at 12:08 a.m. Aug. 21 in the 500 block of South Munroe Circle. He allegedly struck a Des Plaines man with a metal pipe during a disturbance, police said. During a search, officers allegedly recovered three grinders, a metal pipe, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, and an open bottle of rum from Winnick's vehicle.
DRUG
CHARGES
An 18-year-old Chicago woman was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia at 11:44 p.m. Aug. 23. She was the passenger in a car stopped for an alleged traffic violation in the 2100 block of East Dempster Street. Police allegedly recovered a grinder and digital scale from inside the vehicle and a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana from the woman's possession.
Luke Niedziela, 21, of 1380 Oakwood, #301, Des Plaines, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis, and possession of a hypodermic syringe. Police stopped him in the 1200 block of South Lee Street at 3:27 a.m. Aug. 23 after they saw him allegedly twirling around on the sidewalk. He allegedly told police he had a needle and some weed in his pocket, and officers recovered the syringe, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, and suspected heroin from his clothing.
Ivan Contreras, 24, of 20 Redwood Trails, Wheeling, and Juan Terrazas, 19, of 8915 Robin Drive Unit F, Des Plaines, were
charged with possession of cannabis and illegal transportation of alcohol. Police saw them allegedly flashing gang signs and stopped their vehicle in the 2300 block of East Dempster Street at 10:37 p.m. Aug. 22. Officers allegedly recovered a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana and an open bottle of vodka from inside the car.
STOLEN
BICYCLE
A bicycle was taken from the foyer of an apartment in the 1100 block of Arnold Court between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Aug. 21.
BURGLARIES
AND THEFTS
A lawn chair valued at $400 was taken from a yard in the 700 block of West Oakton Street between 5 p.m. Aug. 17 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 20.
Someone took an air conditioner valued at $2,455 from the 300 block of South Western Avenue between 2:30 p.m. Aug. 13 and 12:30 p.m. Aug. 14.
A window was broken and a radar detector taken from a black 2006 Mercury Mountaineer in the 1000 block of Lismore Drive between 9 p.m. Aug. 20 and 7:30 a.m. Aug. 21.
An mp3 player was taken from a blue 1998 Ford Contour in the 1300 block of Oakton Street between 6 p.m. Aug. 20 and 8 a.m. Aug. 21. It was not known if the vehicle was locked and police found no signs of forced entry.
A piggy bank containing about $275 was taken from a house in the 700 block of Cordial Drive between 10 a.m. Aug. 17 and 11 a.m. Aug. 20. Thieves apparently entered the home through a window that was closed but not locked.
Someone took a lawnmower from the 1900 block of East Laura Lane at about 2:20 p.m. Aug. 23. The owner told police he cut about half of his lawn and went inside for something to eat. When he returned 10 minutes later, the mower was gone.
Two pairs of sunglasses and a car key were taken from a black 2006 Ford F150 in the 300 block of Hawthorne Drive between 10:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and 8 a.m. Aug. 24.
Someone cut the line of a boat in the 1300 block of Shagbark, took an American flag, and damaged sports equipment between Aug. 22 and 9:30 a.m. Aug. 23.
A stereo and about $10 in change were taken from a garage in the 1900 block of East Big Bend Drive between 11:15 p.m. Aug. 23 and 8 a.m. Aug. 24.
VANDALISM
REPORTS
Someone shattered a security light at All Saints Cemetery, 700 N. River Rd., and moved several canopies between 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and 6 a.m. Aug. 20. Nothing appeared taken from the cemetery.
The windshield was broken on a silver 2008 Chrysler in the 2000 block of Miner Street between 1 and 6:20 p.m. Aug. 20.
A gold 2000 GMC Yukon and a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck were scratched in the 1900 block of Spruce Street. The damage occurred between 7 p.m. Aug. 20 and 12:30 a.m. Aug. 21.
Two house windows were broken in the 1500 block of Whitcomb Avenue at 2 a.m. Aug. 21.
Someone toilet papered a tree, poured ketchup on a porch, and drew graffiti with chocolate sauce on a driveway in the 1400 block of Lincoln Avenue. The incident occurred between 2:30 and 10 a.m. Aug. 24.
Graffiti was drawn on a bathroom stall wall in the 1500 block of East Ellinwood Avenue between 9 and 11 a.m. Aug. 22.
A window was broken on a building in the 1800 block of Miner Street between 4 p.m. Aug. 21 and 4 p.m. Aug. 22.
