Police Blotter

OBSTRUCTING

CHARGED

Dariusz Waz, 32, of 1920 Stockton Ave., Des Plaines, was charged with obstructing police, driving with a revoked driver's license, and improper lane usage. He allegedly gave police a fictitious name after an officer stopped him at 6:55 p.m. Mar. 22 at River Road and Ashland Avenue for allegedly weaving between lanes.

DRUG

CHARGES

An 18-year-old Des Plaines man was charged with possession of cannabis at 12:52 a.m. Mar. 23. Police took him into custody during an investigation of a fight in the 1500 block of Lee Street. During a search, officers allegedly recovered two plastic bags containing suspected marijuana from his pocket.

William P. Knight Jr., 21, of 428 W. Touhy Ave., Des Plaines, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving with a revoked driver's license, and improper lane usage. An officer stopped him at 10:48 p.m. Mar. 22 in the 2000 block of South Mt. Prospect Road after he allegedly suddenly swerved in front of the squad car. During a search, officers allegedly recovered 189 pills containing suspected codeine from his vehicle. Knight is currently on parole from the Ill. Dept. of Corrections, according to the police report.

DUI

CHARGES

Rafael C. Vargas, 26, of 3671 Salem Walk Drive #1A, Northbrook, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol content more than .08 percent, no valid driver's license, and no proof of insurance. Police found him parked partially on a lawn in the 2500 block of Ballard Road at 4:04 a.m. Mar. 23.

Vargas was allegedly sitting in the driver's seat of the running car, vomiting onto himself, according to the police report. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later recorded a .167 on a breath test.

ALCOHOL

CHARGES

Mao I. Yin, 19, of 222 Grove St., Des Plaines, was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor at 9:03 p.m. Mar. 21. Police took him into custody while investigating a report of a battery at his home.

Police apprehended an 18-year-old Arlington Heights woman, an 18-year-old Mt. Prospect woman, and an 18-year-old Mt. Prospect man at 7:10 p.m. Mar. 21. Police drove past a car in the 1400 block of East Touhy Avenue in which the three were sitting. All three allegedly ducked down as the officer passed, so he stopped to investigate. Police saw the Mt. Prospect woman trying to hide a can of beer and smelled the odor of burnt marijuana from inside the vehicle. Officers allegedly recovered a container of suspected marijuana from the Arlington Heights woman's purse. All three were charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor; the Arlington Heights woman was also charged with possession of cannabis.

THEFT

CHARGED

Nicola J. Caricola, 23, of 510 Seegers Rd. #1A, Des Plaines, was charged with theft of services at 2:05 a.m. Mar. 21. He allegedly used the services of a taxicab from the 600 block of Diversey Street in Chicago to his home. The fare was $41 and Nicola allegedly told the cabdriver he didn't have the money and ran from the taxi. Police apprehended him inside his apartment.

RETAIL THEFTS

CHARGED

Eric D. Sunlly, 32, of 36 E. 100th Place, Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft at Dominick's Finer Foods, 1555 S. Lee St. Police stopped him in the parking lot at 8 p.m. Mar. 20 after he allegedly left without paying for three bottles of liquor valued at a total of $110.97.

Oscar Sanchez-Flores, 33, of 10536 W. Touhy Ave., Rosemont, was charged with retail theft at Kmart, 1155 E. Oakton St. at 10:05 a.m. Mar. 23. He allegedly tried to leave without paying for two video games valued at $19.98.

RETAIL THEFTS

REPORTED

A man took a DVD player valued at $189.99 from a store at 1587 Lee St., at 7:30 p.m. Mar. 19.

Someone took a global positioning system and an mp3 player from a store at 1587 Lee St., between 5:30 and 5:35 p.m. Mar. 21.

Four digital cameras were taken from a store at 1191 S. Elmhurst Rd. between 9 a.m. Mar. 20 and 9 p.m. Mar. 21.

DRIVING

CHARGES

Ronald G. Brooks, 34, of 7144 N. Harlem Ave., Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license, no proof of insurance, and expired registration. Police pulled him over at 12:02 a.m. Mar. 22 in the 2400 block of South Lee Street for the alleged registration violation.

BURGLARIES

AND THEFTS

Someone broke a window on a red 1999 Jeep Cherokee in the 1400 block of East Oakton Street and took two suitcases, a laptop computer, a modem, clothing, and an airline ticket. The burglary occurred between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Mar. 20.

A cutlery set valued at $2,500 was taken from an unlocked blue 2001 Saturn SL2 in the 2600 block of Maple Street between 11:45 p.m. Mar. 19 and 4 a.m. Mar. 20.

Someone took a bicycle from the 1500 block of Rand Road between 12:10 and 12:15 a.m. Mar. 20.

A bicycle was taken from the 1400 block of Oakwood Street between 9 a.m. Mar. 19 and 7:44 p.m. Mar. 20.

A pair of sunglasses and a camera/binocular combination were taken from an unlocked red 2004 Chevrolet Silverado in the 2600 block of South Eisenhower Street between 5 p.m. Mar. 19 and 7:20 a.m. Mar. 20.

A woman who fled in a blue Dodge Durango allegedly took an unknown amount of mail from a mailbox in the 2200 block of South Webster Street. A resident in the home witnessed the theft at 2:10 p.m. Mar. 20, according to the police report.

A laptop computer and a jar of change were taken from an apartment in the 600 block of Colonial Lane between 11:30 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. Mar. 21.

Someone broke a window and took a global positioning system from a blue 1988 Mercury Sable in the 1600 block of Campbell Avenue between 7 p.m. Mar. 20 and 8 a.m. Mar. 21.

A wallet containing a driver's license and credit cards was taken from an unlocked blue 1996 Ford Ranger in the 1900 block of Touhy Avenue. The owner told police he was inside a store for a few minutes at 1:30 p.m. Mar. 23 and discovered the wallet gone when he returned.

VANDALISM

REPORTS

Someone shot BBs through a window and siding of a building and the window of a white 1994 Chevrolet van in the 800 block of South Beau Drive. The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. Mar. 18.

Every body panel was scratched on a black 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT in the 1100 block of Oakton Street at about 6:20 p.m. Mar. 20.

Someone spray-painted the wall of an apartment building in the 2000 block of Pine Street between 8 a.m. and 6:21 p.m. Mar. 23.

A windshield wiper was broken off a white 2004 Ford Freestar in the 900 block of East Oakton Street between 2 and 2:15 p.m. Mar. 22.

Two men in a blue minivan stopped next to a black 1992 Mazda Protege in the 200 block of Eighth Avenue, broke a window on the vehicle, and fled. The damage occurred at 6:06 p.m. Mar. 23.

A window was broken on a 1987 Dodge Ram in the 500 block of Radcliffe Avenue between 5 p.m. Mar. 20 and 7:30 a.m. Mar. 21.

Someone broke a window on a blue 2007 Chevrolet Uplander in the 500 block of Radcliffe Avenue between 9:45 p.m. Mar. 20 and 6 a.m. Mar. 21.

A window was broken on a red 2005 Ford 500 in the 300 block of Cornell Avenue between 7 p.m. Mar. 20 and 7:45 a.m. Mar. 21.

Two windows were broken on a white 1993 BMW 515i in the 400 block of Cornell Avenue between 8 p.m. Mar. 19 and 9:20 a.m. Mar. 21.

Sometime between 11 p.m. Mar. 20 and 8:30 a.m. Mar. 21, someone broke a window on a green 1992 Toyota Tercell in the 100 block of Princeton Street.

A window was broken on a purple 1998 Ford Windstar in the 1400 block of Perry Street between 6 p.m. Mar. 20 and 4:46 a.m. Mar. 21.

Someone drew graffiti in a restroom at the downtown train depot, 1501 E. Miner St., between 9 p.m. Mar. 22 and 7:50 a.m. Mar. 23.
