Medical Episode Causes Driver To Lose Control On Oakton
Des Plaines paramedics took a Rosemont man to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge after he allegedly had a medical emergency and struck a fire hydrant and a tree.
At 1:36 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, Donald Wagner, 47, was driving south on Lee Street when he allegedly left the roadway in the 1300 block and struck a fire hydrant. He continued to Oakton and turned westbound. Just before Wolf Road, he allegedly left the roadway again and drove head-on into a parkway tree and utility pole. Witnesses said his 2007 Dodge Caliber was still dragging the fire hydrant.
The pole and tree brought down a power line that in turn toppled another tree limb on Lincoln Avenue about a block north of the traffic crash, witnesses said.
According to the police report, Wagner had a diabetic episode, causing the two accidents. He was treated and released at the hospital. Police charged him with no proof of insurance and leaving the roadway.
