Noreen Lake Still Unsure About Run For Clerk
Des Plaines Library Board President Noreen Lake, who several months ago said she was seriously considering running for city clerk, then later said she was not, still isn't 100% sure which way she'll go.
Mrs. Lake recently obtained election materials from the Des Plaines City Clerk's office after saying a few weeks earlier that she had decided not to run for clerk in the Apr. 7 city election.
"I'm getting a lot of pressure to run," said Mrs. Lake. "I'm uncomfortable running for clerk when Mike is running for mayor. With Mike running I don't think it's appropriate that I run for clerk."
Mrs. Lake's husband, Mike Lake, has announced that he is a candidate for mayor in the spring election.
Others who have indicated that they may run for mayor are Ald. Don Smith (7th), Ald. Marty Moylan (2d), former alderman Tom Becker, Mark Szumylo, 1395 Phoenix Dr., and John Chemers, 835 Pearson St. Former alderman Dick Sayad said he will run for the job and former 6th ward City Council candidate Patrice McDonough took out election materials late last week.
Besides Mrs. Lake, the name of Jennifer Tsalapanatis, the daughter of Ald. Carla Brookman, has been named as a potential city clerk candidate.
Des Plaines voters will elect a new mayor, city clerk and aldermen from the 1st, 3d, 5th and 7th wards next April. Those who currently occupy those positions must step down due to term limits.
Individuals who have either obtained election materials or who may run for city offices are:
1st ward-Peter Tatera, 675 Pearson St.,; Michael Bausone, 367 Oak St.
3d ward-Michael Kochevar, 1115 Stark Place, Matt Bogusz, 927 E. Prairie Ave., and Mark Gawlinski, 1053 North Ave.
5th ward---Jim Brookman
7th ward---No one yet.
