Decision Expected On Dist. 62 Master Plan Monday
By DWIGHT ESAU

It's decision time for a major proposed upgrade of school buildings and programs in Des Plaines School District 62.
At the regular board of education meeting next Monday night, Aug. 18, the board is scheduled to approve a master plan designed to modernize buildings, upgrade mechanical systems, and make significant changes in many programs.
The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Forest School boardroom, 1375 Fifth Ave.
An 11-member steering committee of residents and former board members has conducted a two-year study of the district's facilities and activities. It made a preliminary report to the board in July.
Recommendations include upgrade of instructional technology and electrical support, modernizing of parking areas, upgrading of food service and kitchen areas, improving safety and security facilities, modernizing buildings for improved maintenance, and centralize the district's early childhood program into one location.
Discussion also will focus on a community survey that was conducted earlier this year.
In other action Monday, the board will:
* Hear a report on positive behavior interventions and supports from Carol Gibbs, North School principal.
* Get an update on its tentative 2008-09 budget, which is expected to generate significantly more revenues in the coming year than expenses.
* Recognize Eagle Scout Kyle Amati, a District 62 alumna.
