Though no longer living in Des Plaines, Lloyd and Pauline Swisegood want friends and family to know they have just celebrated another special wedding anniversary.

The couple meet over 50 years ago. Lloyd was a Cumberland Terrace resident and both he and Pauline Lydia Walters attended Maine Township High School. For the longest time, Lloyd had his eye on Pauline who was one of the most popular girls in school. His opportunity to ask her out came one day when he saw her waiting at a bus stop. She agreed to go downtown with him and later accepted his marriage proposal.

On March 17, 1951 Lloyd and Pauline exchanged vows. One hundred guests shared in the celebration at the American Legion Hall. The Swisegoods moved to a home near the corner of River Road and Perry. Pauline worked at her parents' store, Hoey's Toys in Des Plaines, and Lloyd worked for the Des Plaines Journal and in his own print shop. On Feb. 21, 1957, their son, Donald, was born. He was a special needs child, but his parents were determined to give him the best care possible. Daughters Lynda and Kathe followed.

In the 70's, the family moved to Prospect Heights and the girls attended Christian Liberty Academy. They then moved to Pauline's family home in Cumberland Terrace. On a sad note, Donald passed away in 1996. Their love and faith helped them through this difficult period.

Today they can be found in Harrison, Arkansas. Lloyd and Pauline moved there in December 2005. They enjoy when Lloyd's sister, Florence, visits with daughter, Charlotte. A recent special night out was when they went to Branson, Missouri, for the Lawrence Welk Reunion. Their love of plays, musical groups, old standard movies and signing has led them to join the Council at The Lyric Theater. They have celebrated an anniversary at The Cliff House up in the mountains, been to Eureka Springs, a quaint over 100-year-old area with a great deal of history, and they have spent the day on Table Rock Lake in a houseboat owned by their niece, Carmen, and her husband, Dean. During spring break they attended North Arkansas College's Fiddler's Convention where they traveled from room to room, for four days, listening to musical groups from all over the United States. They attend country fairs, parades, the Buffalo River Elk Festival and have experienced a wonderful ride in a horse drawn carriage.

A little furry ball of happiness came into their lives when she was three weeks old. "Calico", a calico kitten, is their constant companion.

Lloyd and Pauline love Arkansas, but they miss their family and friends. Always in their hearts and dreams are Kathe, Steve, Jonathan and Jessica. Lynda, Kevin and three granddaughters, April, Kayleigh and Ashleigh who live in southern California.
