Public Meeting Seeks Input On '5 Corners'
The first of what will be a series of meetings where local residents can provide input on how to redevelop the "5 Corners" Tax Increment Financing (TIF) area will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Des Plaines Park District's Golf Center.
Community Development Committee chairman Laura Murphy (3d) announced the meeting Monday night. She said the gathering will include representatives from city consultant S.B. Friedman.
"We said we would hold a series of meetings on the 5 Corners area," said Murphy. "This is the first."
Murphy said the primary focus of the May 15 meeting will be about acreage at the north end of the 70-acre parcel. That property lies along the south side of Golf Road and includes Redeker Road that parallels Golf. Located in that area are a number of industrial-type businesses.
City leaders a few years ago designated the acreage a TIF as a way or attracting redevelopment to the area. Several business and property owners opposed the TIF fearing it would adversely affect their companies and their ability to sell their property in the future.
