Small Earthquake Felt Here In Des Plaines
Residents and 911 dispatchers in Des Plaines felt the earth move after a recent 5.2 magnitude earthquake centered in southern Illinois.
North Suburban Emergency Communications Center Director Sherrill Ornberg told the Journal that after the quake hit on Friday, Apr. 18 at 4:37 a.m. dispatchers received seven calls within about 10 to 15 minutes asking what had happened.
"It was nothing earth shattering," said Ornberg. "There was no hysteria, people were just curious."
Ornberg said two of the six dispatchers working at the center at the time felt the quake themselves.
