A Chicago man was charged with five counts of domestic battery after he was allegedly involved in a dispute with his estranged girlfriend and their four children, according to a spokeswoman for Cook County Sheriff's Police.

One 11-year-old child and the alleged offender were transported to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Cook County Sheriff's Police and the North Maine Fire Dept. responded to the 10000 block of Holly Lane in unincorporated Maine Township on Tuesday, Apr. 15 around 5 p.m. after a neighbor reported an altercation.

Police allege that the man grabbed his estranged girlfriend by the throat and as she tried to fight him off she grabbed a can of pepper spray and shot it into the air affecting all six people in the house.

Police said the man was visiting his children at the mother's home when he allegedly became enraged and attacked the mother. The children range in age from seven to 13.

After the offender was treated at Lutheran General Hospital, he was charged with five counts of misdemeanor domestic battery.

He was released on $5,000 bond on Friday, Apr. 25.

On Friday, Apr. 18, court records show an order of protection was issued preventing the suspect from coming near the mother or children.
