Police Enhancing Photo Of TCF Bank Robber

The Des Plaines Police Dept. is collaborating with other police departments to enhance surveillance video of a suspect robbing the TCF Bank inside the Jewel Food Store on Lee Street, Sunday, Mar. 9.

Deputy Chief Bill Schneider said the original video could not produce a quality photo of the suspect, who entered the store at about 8:06 p.m. after placing pantyhose over his face and approaching two tellers.

The suspect climbed over the counter and told tellers: "Gimme your money. Don't give me any dye packs."

He also ordered employees to open the vault, but after realizing it locked at 8 p.m., the suspect fled the scene.

"We are just trying to enhance the video at this time, that's why we don't have a picture to circulate," he said. "We have other police agencies that can help in enhancing some of the video and their equipment is a bit more sophisticated."

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 40s, about 5-feet, 11-inches tall and about 190 pounds.

He was wearing a Chicago Cubs baseball hat, dark brown jacket, dark blue pants with black and white New Balance shoes.

It's believed that the suspect made away with about $5,000 in cash, but the exact amount is not being released at this point in the investigation.

Often a bank robbery would be handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but Schneider said Des Plaines Police are still in charge of the investigation and the case has not been taken over by the FBI.
