Bank Robber Gets Away With Nearly $5,000

An armed robber escaped with nearly $5,000 from the TCF Bank inside Jewel Food Store, 1500 S. Lee St.

The man entered the store at about 8:06 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 9.

Surveillance videos show him standing inside the store for about 30 seconds, and then slipping a pair of pantyhose over his face.

He walked up to the bank counter and displayed a black pistol to the two employees. He climbed over the counter and said, "Gimme your money. Don't give me any dye packs."

He took cash from two teller drawers then ordered the employees to open the vault.

One of the employees walked with him towards the vault, then realized the vault locked at 8 p.m.

When he told the suspect the vault was locked, he fled back over the counter and ran back out the doors.

The suspect was described as a white man in his late 40s standing about 5-feet, 11-inches in height and weighing about 190 pounds. He was wearing a blue Chicago Cubs baseball cap, a dark brown jacket, dark blue pants, and black and white New Balance running shoes.
