Aldermen Lobbying For Further Study

Des Plaines Ald. Carla Brookman (5th), again this week called on City Council members to authorize an independent study of the city's contractual relationship with a company hired in 2001 to help assemble property for redevelopment of the Mannheim-Higgins Road area.

Brookman, who several weeks ago urged that an independent study be conducted in the matter, said City Manager Dave Niemeyer's recently released report on the relationship seems to be "peppered with statements of a lack of recollections and a lot of fuzzy memories."

"We don't know who dictated or typed the letter extending the city's contract with Prime Site," said Brookman. "There are no identifying marks on the letter. Everything is hanging out there unanswered."

Added Brookman, "now more than ever an independent investigation needs to be done."

Several months ago when City Manager Dave Niemeyer said that he will look into the matter, he suggested to aldermen that an outside firm be hired to check the facts. City Council members did not move on that suggestion agreeing to let Niemeyer perform the task. Niemeyer released his report this week.
