BUSINESS
BREAKIN
A beauty salon on East Northwest Highway was entered
illegally and partially ransacked, but nothing was
apparently stolen, police said. The incident occurred
on Mar. 31. A dead bolt on the front door was cut apart
and drawers inside the establishment were emptied and
the contents strewn on the floor, a report said.
AUTO
BURGLARIZED
The loss was put at about $620 when a '93 Mazda 626
was burglarized while it was parked in the 1800 block
of South White Street on Mar. 29, police said. A door
lock was forced open, causing $100 damage, and two
pair of designer sunglasses and a gym bag full of clothes
were stolen, a report said.
GRAFFITI
PAINTED
About $150 in damage was done to a company on South
Mt. Prospect Road Mar. 30 when graffiti was spray-painted
in blue on a door, picnic table, and an outside wall
of a building, police said.
TRUCKS
VANDALIZED
Three trucks parked in a commercial lot on Wille Road
had their door latches broken and apparently were entered
on Mar. 30, police said. It was unknown if anything
was stolen from them. Locks on a fence surrounding
the lot were broken to gain entry.
DISTURBING
THE PEACE
A 25-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested and charged
with disturbing the peace when he allegedly refused
to stop yelling loudly, making obscene remarks, and
calling 9-1-1 and verbally harassing emergency operators,
police said.
He was identified as Richard Bilik of the 1700 block
of White Street.
TEENS
CHARGED
Three Orland Park and Oak Forest-area teenagers were
stopped by police for traffic infractions on West Dempster
Street on Apr. 1, police said, and then they were charged
with minor consumption of alcohol.
A 19-year-old youth, who was reportedly driving the
car, was charged with improper lane usage, having no
vehicle insurance, and minor consumption of and possession
of alcohol, authorities said.
Two 18-year-olds in the car with him were charged with
minor consumption of alcohol. Several containers of
beer were found in the car when it was stopped, police
said.
Also in the car, police said, were a small metal scale,
filter screens commonly used to smoke marijuana, a
glass pipe, two pellet guns, a revolver, an expandable
baton, a rotating blue light, a polices scanner, an
air horn, tools, a CB radio, several stereo and CD
components, a CD organizer, and a karaoke machine.
In a similar incident a day later at a River Road bowling
alley parking g lot, two Chicago 19-year-olds were
arrested and charged with underage drinking after alcohol
was reportedly found in their vehicle, police said.
CEMENT DEER
STOLEN
A 175-pound mule deer statue was dragged from its position
in a display at an East Dempster Street landscape firm
and stolen, police said. It was worth $202. It was
the second theft from the site in the last few days,
a report said.
