There are many ways to commit the crime of deceptive practice (obtaining money illegally), but an individual selected a somewhat novel method in a Des Plaines company this week.
Officials of Chicago Faucets on South Clearwater allegedly told police Feb. 22 that someone altered two payroll checks to amounts other than what they were originally issued for. Two checks were changed by $500 for a total of $1,000 worth of fraud.
They were both cashed on company premises, a report said. An investigation by the company and police was reportedly focusing on employee(s).
