April Permits Double That Of Last Year

Although building permits for 2008 still trail those issued in 2007, work started in Park Ridge during April this year more than doubled the work done in April of 2007.

The valuation of the 270 permits issued in April was $9.5 million, compared to $4.1 million for the 222 permits in April 2007. Fees for the city increased from $84,545 to $162,909.

Housing construction showed permits for six new homes and seven demolitions, bringing the respective totals to 11 and 14 for the first four months of 2008. The April report also listed a new two-unit townhome, 28 residential remodeling projects, and 10 new garages.

Commercially, the city issued nine permits for business alterations. They included parking lot lighting at MB Financial, 1014 Busse Highway, a kitchen hood and fire system at St. Mary's Epicopal Church, 306 S. Prospect Ave., basement alterations at Morningfield's Grocery, 800 Devon Ave., and interior plumbing and a cooler at a retail shop at 624 Devon.

Other April permits included 45 fences, 16 patios, 12 driveways, seven hot water tanks, five lawn sprinklers, three air conditioners, and two roofs.
