Meeting Seeks Public Input On Rent-A-Car Property

Park Ridge Ald. Frank Wsol (7th) plans a discussion with neighbors regarding the potential development of the old Budget Rent-a-Car property.

"This is an opportunity for the people in that area to come out," Wsol said. The meeting is planned for Wednesday, Apr. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. The property in question is at 742 Higgins Rd., east of Cumberland Avenue.

Wsol explained the owner of the property, Michael Loukas, and Neri Architects recently attended an Appearance Commission meeting for a preliminary presentation. Wsol spoke to him about holding a community meeting for people adjacent to his property. "It's a chance to listen to what he's thinking about and express concerns they might have," Wsol said. Loukas is proposing a combination office and retail structure for the site.

"I give credit to Mr. Loukas," Wsol said, regarding holding the meeting to hear from residents. "If people come out and express concerns, I hope that he will listen." Wsol added that it's unusual to get public comment so early in a development plan and warns against apathy. "If they don't come out, it's almost like a go-ahead," he said.

Wsol spent several days handing out flyers door-to-door to inform residents. "Something's going to happen in your neighborhood," he said.

"This is an opportunity for people to come and share any thoughts or concerns they may have." He said he's gotten some feedback and looks forward to the meeting. "Maybe you've got a good idea that he'll listen to," Wsol said. "Anything's on the board."
