Local Auto Repair Shop Feels Effects Of Slowing Economy

The sluggish economy is slowing business for a two-year old Des Plaines auto repair shop.

"Business right now is soft," said Ray Davidson, co-owner of Davidson Automotive Technology, 1500 E. Rand Rd. He and his son Ryan opened the shop in October of 2006.

"It's definitely being affected by the economy."

The economic turmoil is a double-edged sword in the auto repair business. "We're seeing people doing work on older cars that they might not have done a year or so ago when they might have considered buying a new car," he said.

However, that extra work is more than tempered.

"People are also postponing work because they just don't have credit left to pay for it," Davidson explained.

Davidson Automotive Technology is a full service auto and truck repair facility. In 2007, the business added a custom muffler center to the services, giving them the capability to install customized high-performance exhaust systems including performance enhanced mufflers and chrome tailpipe extensions.

"Custom muffler allows us to do more customized mufflers for older antique cars or hot rods or even newer models cars that are looking to add customized components to their existing muffler system," Davidson said.
