Convention Center Sees Progress On Camera, Entrance Projects
Most of the estimated 200 new security cameras are in place at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, according to General Manager Chris Stephens.
The cameras replace an aging system that was installed many years ago. Since then, the convention center has grown substantially in size and now measures 840,000 sq. ft.
Total cost of the security system that not only serves the convention center but the nearby village-owned parking garage is $1.2 million.
The parking deck, one of the largest in Illinois, has a total of 9,000 parking spaces. The cameras were activated about a month ago, said Stephens.
Meanwhile, work is progressing on the construction of a new drive entranceway to the Stephens Center off of River Road.
About half the work has been completed on the $3.2 million project.
Ceiling framing work is underway in the area where vehicles can drive up to doorways to the convention center and adjoining banquet rooms. Work on a new water feature is almost complete, said Stephens. He explained that he hopes work will be done in early summer, but that a specific target date has not been set. Construction work starts and stops depending on convention show schedules.
