June's most popular casino was in Elgin, which saw admissions at 221,384 and gross receipts of $32.8 million. The state's share of that revenue was $15.6 million and the local share was $1.8 million.
The biggest spenders attended the casino in Aurora, however, spending an average of $166 per person. That figure is in line with the city's year-to-date statistics as well, with Aurora patrons paying an average of $165 per admission.
Calendar year-to-date statistics through June indicate that Elgin typically saw the highest revenues at $204.4 million, followed by Joliet-Harrah's with $153 million, Aurora with $116.7 million, and Joliet-Empress with $114.5 million.
Between May 2005 and June 2005, casino revenue declined at an average of 6.28%.
A comparison of this month's revenues to June 2004 indicates that revenues increased across the board, despite last month's decline. Revenue at Harrah's in Joliet increased by 18.46%, rising from $21.5 million in June 2004 to $25.5 million in June 2005. Revenue increased by 2.03% at the Joliet-Empress, 4.94% in Aurora, and 4.68% in Elgin.
June admission numbers have also increased, with the exception Elgin, which saw casino attendance decline by 3.04%. Admissions at Harrah's in Joliet increased by 21.04% over the past year.
The most profitable table game in casinos was BlackJack and 21, which was played at 132 units in Illinois casinos and grossed $8.8 million in May. Twenty-five craps tables grossed $4.6 million, and 21 Roulette stations grossed $2.6 million.
Electronic Gaming devices, numbered at 9,800 in Illinois casinos, generated $134.4 million in total revenue.
