End Of Year Choral Concert Tonight At EG

Elk Grove High School's choral department will showcase its many performing groups in a year-end concert, tonight, Thursday, May 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the school's gymnasium.

Recently returning from a five-day concert tour, the choirs are well-rehearsed and ready to give their best for Elk Grove audiences.

Included on the program will be the Concert Choir, Freshman Choir, New Horizons, Towne Criers, and Men's Glee Club, with a variety of featured student soloists. Music performed will include show tunes from musical theater, pop, spiritual, and classical works, directed by Jerome Swanson and accompanied by Kay Swanson.

Refreshments will be served in the foyer following the concert, courtesy of the EGHS Music Boosters. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students; seniors are admitted free.

3 Hersey Students Earn Scholarships From AH Art Guild

Three John Hersey High School art students have recently been named as scholarship recipients of the Arlington Hts. Art Guild, which will provide funds to help further their studies in art this fall.

Scholarships have been granted to the following: Alexa Domas of Prospect Hts. and Mikael Klefstad of Mt. Prospect, both attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; and Lauren Kwiat of Mt. Prospect, attending the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

Hersey art teachers are Simeon Costea, Gary Drake, Rich Lane, and Sue Renner.

At the Great Frame-Up in Arlington Ht. on April 18, several art students were also featured at the store's Creative Self-Expression Show.

Winning "Best of Show" cash awards at this juried exhibit were the following artists: Natalia Broz of Mt. Prospect, sculpture; Alexa Domas, photography; Mikael Klefstad, painting; Chris Mastalerz of Mt. Prospect, drawing; and Rocky Senise of Wheeling, computer imaging.

State Scholars At Hersey, Wheeling

76 students from John Hersey High School in Arlington Hts. and 50 students from Wheeling High School in Wheeling have recently been named Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC).

The following Hersey seniors are Illinois State Scholars for 2001-2002:

In order to enter the competition, high school students must take the ACT and/or SAT examination between Sept. 1-June 30 of their junior year. Selection of scholars is based on a combination of test scores and class rank at the end of the junior year. Nearly all will continue their education after high school.
